Each month md-discgolf.com will put the spotlight on a local disc golfer and get a personal interview.  The purpose is to introduce a new golfer each month to the entire community so if you see them out on the course, you won't feel shy about saying "Hello".  Golfers are chosen in psuedo-random fashion to be In The Spotlight and for no particular reason.  As long as you play in or around Maryland, we may hit you up for an interview.

For our debut month, Rick Romeo was brave enough let us put him in the spotlight...

1. What is your name? Online handle(s)?

Rick Romeo and as a result my online handle is rromeo. Not much thought on that one.

2. How did you get started playing the sport of disc golf?

I started playing in August of 2007. A good friend of mine had been asking me to play for years but i really wasnt into frisbee's so I blew it off. Wish I had started MUCH earlier.

3. What is your favorite aspect of the game?

I like the challenge. That is what got me hooked. I saw all these non athletic looking guys throwing farther and with more accuracy than me and that pissed me off.  I also love the exercise and being outdoors. However, probably the best thing to come out of playing disc golf is the new friends I have made.

4. What part(s) have you found to be the most challenging?

Consistency. I have great days when everything is working and I think, I have this game figured out. I then play the next day and it is like I have forgotten everything I knew.

5. What is your most memorable moment so far?

Beating the guy who introduced me to the game. Winning the Maryland Tag Challenge and the Maryland Monthly Series for 2008 all in the same day!

6. Any aces?

None :(

7. Home course?

Patapsco

8. Favorite course?

Patapsco

9. What’s in the bag?

I have a Revo Carolina bag so I have too many discs that I carry around. My go to discs are as follows.

Drivers - DGA Rogue, Pro and Champ Wraith, and a Dx Cheetah.

Midrange - Rocs!

Putter - Wizards

Now with that said I recently played a round at Ptap and scored a 58. I then played a round at Ptap, same day, and I ran the course and only used one disc (beat dx roc) and also scored a 58. So I am not sure why I carry so many discs in the first place.

10. What do you do when you’re not golfing?

I exercise a lot, I practice Tai Jutso, I read novels, I listen to music and last but not least I drink beer!
